One more strike against the name "Rail Blazer" for AMTRAK is that it was the name of a roller coaster ride at Six Flags (Eureka, Missouri). Its name was changed after a tragic death in 1984, but the memory lingers on. Some in Jefferson City still have the badge "I survived the Rail Blazer."
It was promotional material they received before the national attention the roller coaster death of July 1984.

Thanks for the corrections, Bill.

That first AMTRAK listed finalist name is MISSOURI RAIL BLAZER. (a play on words that doesn't do much as a brand name) I would have preferred Trailblazer, which is the local Lewis & Clark Middle School's "plural nickname".

And my name is spelled STINE as in the popular Scholastic Inc. distributed childrens books by author R. L. Stine.
